Mid-January Already

(dad-blast it! I swear I posted this when I wrote it, but here it is in drafts…argh!)

I am home, but I am still waiting.

I do have my bed! My dear wonderful bed, that is so flipping comfy, with everything I need in reach. My desktop, on a desk with a keyboard shelf and my chair. Oh, I missed my chair!

And yet…

We’ve been back two weeks and a couple days, but there’s still stuff everywhere. The movers packed everything and did a not-great job (seriously, there was a box that contained one (1) sleeping bag, and nothing else.) We were supposed to have time–stuff brought back Friday, on Saturday we’d get moved back in with the few things we had and get some unpacking done, on Sunday we’d clean the empty rental…sounds almost idyllic, doesn’t it? Not to mention ideal. But nooooooo. There was a communication error and our stuff wasn’t brought back to our house till Saturday evening–and we didn’t know it would happen until an hour before it did. So we didn’t know if we’d be able to move home. We then spent Sunday shoving stuff into the car and then shoving it into our house, and frantically cleaning the rental.

Anyway. We are home. There’s stuff everywhere. We’re trying to get stuff put away, but it’s much harder than it should have been, because with everything in and us living here, if you pick something up to put it away you have to move stuff that’s in the wrong place first. It’s the least fun game of Tetris ever.

Also we’re also waiting. Roomie and I both decided to get our rooms in order, to fix things that have been bugging us. And since I’m already way overspent–well, what the heck. I ordered shelves for places I’ve been meaning to put shelves, so we can put things away better. And I’m trying to encourage the giving away of things.

It’s just all in flux. That’s all. Kind of like this blog post, as I wander around announcing again and again what a mess my house is.

Anyway. Standing desk on the way. Supposedly-portable treadmill for under the desk, here (in a box, so far.) Balance board fun! Anti-fatigue mat very nice. New printer and file cabinet? Resisted so far.

We’ll see how this goes.

Happy 2024, friends. May the year be kind to all of us.
