Why I Write

Because sometimes I need reminding.

  • Taro is a magnificent scoundrel. He is so much fun to write. I love his crazy plans, I love his utter faithfulness, and I love, love, love, him with Rafe.
  • Rafe is so adorable. Adorkable. I love his flirty fluff-brain ways, and I love when he starts learning to think, and I love his love for Taro.
  • Eve kicks serious ass. And she can be such a bitch. But she never, though she’d deny it, acts out of mean.
  • Ben. Oh, what can I say about Ben? Brilliant and gentle and strong, though he thinks he’s not…
  • Hiro. Hiro and Ume and Cree, and Hiro alone. Eshan. Shukri and Devendra and Kez. Madmen and transwomen and gods in disguise, and a man in love.
  • Flame. Flame hopping on that rock, taking on a sea monster when she can’t even reach its nose because she’s tired and sore and smells like fish and it’s all the beast’s fault.
  • Ryahled, because Flame pushes him to the brink of madness and he keeps coming back for more.
  • It’s cheaper than therapy.
  • Remy. He’s such a demanding little bottom. He’ll rule Sammael’s life. You’ll see.
  • Melissa and her committee meetings. I can’t wait to write her story.
  • Fidelis. How could I not love a boy with wings who doesn’t talk and won’t be defeated?
  • My writing wins me friends worth having.
  • Naomi. She just walked in and took over Fidelis’ story, and I’m rather grateful. While it’s hard telling a story from the POV of a blind girl, it was much harder trying to do it in the voice of a boy who doesn’t speak.
  • One day I hope to make a living doing what I love. Practice, practice, practice!
  • The fans, man. The fans. SFF fans are the awesomest people in the world.
  • Donte and Selene. His mystified acceptance of her fierce love.
  • Keen. My very own pissy redheaded swordsman. <3
  • Taro and Rafe. I love them separately, I adore them together.
  • Joss. ZOMG, Joss. Cocky, mouthy, rumpled, slutty–words cannot adequately describe. “Oh my land RUDE MEN!” I nearly died laughing writing that scene.
  • Kolya. Cross-dressing, kitten-bearing, sneaky glowering emo hacker. Another story I can’t wait to read as I write it.
  • Ro. omg, when Keen meets his match…
  • BECAUSE I CAN’T STOP.

So. A list, in case I forget. I want published, yes. But I won’t stop writing if it doesn’t happen. I won’t stop writing “until” it happens. I won’t sit around pouting that it hasn’t happened. I’ll just go on working and trying, and loving the inmates in this asylum I call my head.

  1. Y’all being prime examples of the great friends my writing has brought me.

I miss FLAME TOO! I need a plot for her second adventure… Maybe I’ll work on that in August, since the months till then are PACKED.

  2. Indeed. Lucky I have others, though, so I have less resentment for the TAKING OVER OF MY LIFE. 😀
