Let Them Play

Sometimes you just have to let the muses play. Like when you’ve been trying for two days to get through one lousy scene, and they just keep hauling you off to look up sailing terms or search for The Bourne Ultimatum trailers. (here are two)

At such times, letting go can really help. So I opened a blank document, typed in what needed to happen:

He comes up, bumps the boat. Bumps again; someone goes in. Before they can do anything, sailor is gone.

Blood plume. A sucked the man in and crunched, forcing the water out before swallowing.

More bumps. Creaks and groans of a wounded ship. Run for the shore, and stand and wait.

Then I just closed my eyes and typed. (goofs have been left in for the fun of it)

‘kay, gang, are we ready? I nthink we may be.

what the hell was that?

tpyo. fuggit. Type. hee hee.

I haven’t let you out to play in a whale, have I?

whale? Where whale?

Werewhale? That would be seriously…not-good.

bwahaha…

okay. Flame. what are we going to do?

ooh, love this song.

I knew someoo did, we hear it a lot. And play it over, again andagaing.

I wonder what the hell this page looks like.

I wouldn’t look if I were you.

Flame.

no one wants to do Flame, have’nt you noticed that yet?

Tough. We need to get it done. Let’s just do it and move on, so we can start worrying abount what the heck wepre doing for NaNo.

I’m falling even more in love with you. letting go of all I’ve held on to.
Standing here until you make me move, hanging by a moment here with you.
I’m running for the only thing I know, I’m running and I’m quite sure where to go.
There’s nothing else to lose
there’s nothing else to find.
There’s nothing in the world that can change my mind.
There is nothing else.
hanigni mdf a moment here with you.

I’m running and I’m qutite sher where to go.
hanning my a moment…

‘kay, ‘kay. Come on, gang.

I wanna be an Airborne Ranger, i want a life of sex and danger. I want to be a drill instructor and cut off all my hair.

“Captain.” Flame stepped to the edge; both men jumped when she spoke. “Captain, our leader is a priest of some power, and the older woman a mage. Alert them if you fear danger.”

“Danger me drunken mother!” the captain snapped. “There’s just–”

The boat jolted up; Flame staggered as it slammed down. Men fell shouting and sails snapped and things bounced about the deck.

Boom, boom, boom! YESSS! THE BOOM!*

muahahaha..,

I love my voices. (the song, beloved by all inside my head, is Hanging by a Moment, by Lifehouse.)

*that’s where I figured out (okay, a voice told me) that the boom was how Flame got knocked in the water.
