Scrivener

If you're a writer, please have a look at Scrivener.

You've probably heard of it. I know I heard of it a lot, long before I could have it. I tried other things (here's Storybook, which didn't work as well for me but has the advantage of being free) because I heard how good Scrivener was over and over but I didn't have a Mac so I couldn't use it.

Now, at last, they've made it for Windows too.

When I heard Scrivener for Windows was in beta, I ran to participate. I'd heard so much, you see.

At first I was disappointed. I don't do intricate outlines, so the notecards didn't mean much to me. I don't write in chapters, either. I just write, and divide it all up later.

Then I tried it for editing. HOLY CARP.

Divide a 100K manuscript into scenes? Easy. Assign those scenes to chapters and jiggle them to be of similar length? Just as easy. Check your plot lines up with the three-act (and a midpoint!) structure? Wow.

I downloaded every beta edition the second I could. I bought the full edition the moment I had the money. I've started using it for nearly everything.

Here's what my plan for the site re-organization looks like. Me making a plan at all is astonishing, but Scrivener makes it just that easy.
