Sometimes You Just GOTTA

I’m 43 and I’m trying to learn how to be more responsible with money. I’m trying to remind myself that if I want THAT, I may have to learn to do without THIS.

With that in mind, yesterday I took a certain amount of cash, and resolved not to spend any more than that, and I went looking for a kitchen table. (We have one, and it’s tiny. It’s basically a café table. Which is fine when only one or two people may ever need it. If you want three people to eat a meal together, they need to be extremely friendly, graceful, and not hungry.)

So yes. Kitchen table. I started my hunt in thrift stores, because you can find nicer stuff for less there.

I resisted even looking at the books. I walked past the pretty clothes and the Halloween treasures. I picked up many things that I then dutifully walked myself back and put away.

But then…

Sometimes you find something you have to buy. Sometimes you find yourself in a store, with exactly the amount of money you can spend, looking for one specific thing you need to buy, and then you find something else that you need in your life. Maybe that you need MORE than you need that other thing that you were looking for.

I’m informed my exact words were “do I actually need–why am I even asking? Of COURSE I need a jellyfish paperweight that glows in the dark.”

Here’s what it looks like in the light.

Here’s what it looks like when I take it into my closet.

I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time in my closet in the last 24 hours, snickering at my jellyfish and no that’s not a euphemism stop that.

Glow in the dark jellyfish. Best thing ever.

Also, have a completely gratuitous cat picture.
