Thanks for the Assistance, Brain

I read (I forget where) that walking through a doorway makes us forget, as our minds wipe the slate clean for the next experience.

Thanks, brain. Really.

Today is the first (slightly) chilly day of fall that I’ve had the chance to enjoy. That matters because for months it’s been far too hot to consider tea as a beverage choice. Today, though, when I wanted to go eat something warm and bad for me, I was able to re-direct myself to tea.

I went into the kitchen to get it, and forgot what I was there for. Wandered a bit, looking at things, but talked myself out of a snack.

On the way back to my computer, I passed the cupboard where we keep the tea and was reminded. Put a cup of water in the microwave with a chai teabag floating in it, and went back to my computer.

A few minutes later I thought “I’d really like a snack. Something warm, maybe, since the weather’s so nice, maybe with tea—oh right!”

Went into the kitchen, and forgot what I was there for. Fortunately sight of the microwave reminded me.

While I was there I got some cookies, just on the off chance that my memory is so bad because I’m starving my brain.

I don’t think that worked out the way I’d wanted it to.
