You Have the Right to be Offensive

You Have the Right to be Offensive

You have the right to say things that hurt people because you don’t think those things should hurt people.

You have the right to use any word you want, even if it hurts people who are just too sensitive.

You have the right to be offended should anyone ask you to change.

You have the right to be offended at being asked to think.

You have the right to be offended on being told that you have hurt someone.

You have the right to dislike the tone of anyone who argues with you.

You have the right to shove it all under the rug and pretend it never happened.

You have the right to derail the discussion with talk of how hurt you are.

You have the right to laugh in other places about the things that hurt people.

You have the right to feel put upon if asked to examine your vocabulary or your own tone.

You have the right to invalidate the experience of others because it is not similar to your experience.

You have the right to claim some slurs are offensive (jig, fag, cunt) while claiming that others are harmless (crazy, lame, retard.)

Or maybe you just have privilege. I know I do.
