Ruminations

Or rather, frantic thinking.

My story is boring me. I got past the velociraptors, I’m not yet to the unicorn, and I’m bored. Corey, Corindor, my elven prince, my Awesome and Gorgeous Hero, is freaking boring.

He’s too perfect. Somehow I never saw that before, in all the wondering over Teh Awesome that would be/could be Melissa/Perdita/Nemesis. (Everyone calls her Sissy. It’s fabulous.)

So. I asked Twitter for help.

One awesome person suggested things like drinking, flirting, one night stands. He has nothing to drink, no one but the FMC to flirt with (and she wouldn’t be adverse), and he needs (for the sake of the story) to be capable of extreme loyalty.

She suggested he give his extreme loyalty to the wrong person. My writer-brain went “ooh…”

Another awesome person suggested tics. Or phobias. More awesome ideas, but not suited to the moment I need them–Corey and Sissy are about to have a Serious Talk, the first chance they’ll have to figure out what’s going on, and I need him doing something that gets in the way of reaching a real alliance.

Don’t get me wrong. Sissy has her own issues that will get in the way. But he needs to, as well. Not to mention, perfect and bland and boring.

Arrogance is another suggestion; I’m playing with it now. Mostly I’m writing this to update my blog and think on page.

Yes, this is how my brain runs on when it doesn’t want to work. ^__^

He thinks she’s The One Foretold. That could complicate things nicely. Explains why he’s been cooperative so far, gives her reason to be stubborn when he tries to push her to do her Prophesied Duty…

Hmm…

I think I need to go wash the dishes. I’m in agreement with Agatha Christie on how extremely useful that chore is to the thinking process.
