Good Question(s)

So I mentioned I’ve been wandering Chuck Wendig’s blog. Today I stumbled on this post:  Six Questions to Ask as You Write. (Still not for the faint of heart–but damn, he cracks me up!)

If you don’t care to go over there, here are the six things to ask yourself about a scene, in a handy portable package as created by one of his readers.

:mrgreen: You can go here for the original, including a desktop size: eddyfate’s photostream.

I’m especially interested in the “Does this make sense?” question as that’s what has me headdesking over Ben right now. I’m constrained by what I’ve written after (Yes, I can change it, no, I don’t believe I could get it all right, did I mention EIGHT BOOKS??), so I have to try to make plot points that make no sense, make sense.

Argh. Though I do like the way Hanna joins the group more now than the original scene I wrote, lo those years ago.

  1. This is mostly unrelated, but there’s a running joke in my family about how my sister’s ex looks like Beaker. Which he does, and not in a flattering way. And so I giggle too much every time I look at that to take in a thing. ^_^;

  2. Well, I like to believe there is beauty in everyone who is pure of heart, even slightly freaky-looking Muppets.

  3. Oh Chuck. Not for the faint of heart indeed. :look: I still find myself going “wait, what?” at some of his entries, before shaking my head and giggling at the sheer absurdity. Still, good advice hidden amongst the profanity. I may need that picture on my wall when I start trying to edit this thing.

  4. @Kami- agreed, but I think that beauty isn’t necessarily visible. 😀

    @Sen- I made it my wallpaper. I don’t know how long it will last, but so far it’s helpful to have Beaker reminding me to make each scene count. RE: Chuck- I find the profanity and phallus jokes refreshing. I love TSR, but sometimes I wanna have a beer and scratch my beard and make disgusting jokes. (Except without the beer and the beard. >_> )
