Editing DOOM, Day Three

Today was the day I got annoyed and shortened DSoEDOOM to DSED. It was also the day I spent a lot of time looking for one particular scene, found it, edited it, input the edits, went to put it in the main file–and found it was in the manuscript I was planning to use already.

Also, I have about a thousand drafts of this story, and my brain wants to pick and choose scenes from among them and I think it may drive me mad.

Also also, it seems Eve’s first words to Ben were “Hey there, hot stuff. Come here often?” Which is marginally better than “Hey, sailor, buy you a drink?”

I’m pondering cutting a few of the murder attempts, partly because it’s hard to justify them with what I know of the bad guys (they didn’t hire every bounty hunter in the galaxy, really), and partly because it’s an awful lot of action to pack into that time. The thing is, there are seven books after this one. And lots of them reference stuff in this one, and may or may not do it in a way that would be very hard to change. And I won’t know till I get there because I can’t remember–do you have any idea how many words that is? And things have changed, and changed again, and some have changed back already…

Bah. I’m very, very tired and not particularly happy with my accomplishments today. I did much better at focusing, but the actual progress…sigh.

  1. Oh my god I hit the cornify button and sparkly unicorns exploded all over your blog. I thought I had slipped into some alternate dimension where the Easter Bunny was going to cuddle me into a stranglehold and choke me with rainbows. I was convinced for a moment that I’d had a bit too much Captain Morgan until I realized the rum was gone and I was not the one who had drinken it all. Damn sneak-thief lush unicorns.

Srsly. Those sparkly unicorns, they be stealing your progress.
