What Does It Take to Make You Care?

[name removed], 45, of Starke, Fla., said she felt compelled to become political for the first time this year because she was upset by government spending.

“Our government has lost sight of the powers they were granted,” she said. She added that the deficit spending was out of control, and said she thought it was putting the country at risk. — Tea Party Washington D.C.

Really? You weren’t ready to protest when G.W. Bush turned a record surplus into a deficit in like, a year? From the LA Times:

The books are closed on fiscal 2008. The surplus the current President Bush inherited has turned into a record deficit: $455 billion.

That is more than twice the 2007 deficit of $162 billion and beyond the previous record of $413 billion in 2004.

That didn’t get you off your ass, but Obama, who inherited the mess, earns your anger? What about Katrina and the Gulf Coast? They still don’t have what they need to rebuild. Is it because you don’t live there that you don’t give a shit about that?

What about the Great American way of torturing suspected terrorists? Imprisoning U.S. citizens without access to a lawyer, without charges filed, for years? The invasion of a foreign country? The lying to Congress to justify that invasion? How about illegal wiretapping?  Guantanamo? Any of this ringing bells?

But none of that affects you, does it? Well, except for that record deficit thing, but really, how were you to know? Somehow Fox News didn’t mention the deficit until their Golden Boy was out of office.

Do us all a favor and go plant your ignorant ass back where it was. Or, y’know. Take the time and effort to learn something. Try pushing the channel button on your remote. A different perspective might do you worlds of good.
