Writing Quote

“… it’s so hard for me always–to really become totally absorbed in what I’m writing. When I read a big bloc I get this feeling, get the hang of it again, and realize all that I want to do yet–the immensities of the vistas stagger me. And at the same time I realize that one must not and cannot wait for the perfect situation–to write thus. One must write, and live too, as if today were the last day, the last chance.” Henry Miller in a letter to Anais Nin, quoted in The Diary of Anais Nin, Volume 3, 1939-1944.

Yeah, that. If I wait until I’m a better writer to write my stories–well, I’ll never get to be a better writer. I’ve got to do this now. I must write, and edit, and write and push onward and learn things and revise and write some more. I know this; I keep telling myself this truth as I fight with Fidelis to get 238 words, or 141, or none at all.

To learn to write, I must write. No story will ever match what my muses think it ought to be, but still I have to try. Write like it’s my last chance.

Onward.
