Into a Vortex

“Does genius burn?”  That’s what Jo March’s family used to ask when she was writing frantically in Little Women.  That was my first exposure to how other writers lived, and I’ve never forgotten it.  Because I do it too.  Oh, I don’t have the cap that warned family members of Jo’s mood, and I don’t have the secluded attic to work in (*sigh*), but it’s still the same thing.

I fall into a vortex.  Gotta go to work to keep the electricity on to keep the ol’ word processor going, but other than that–I don’t care.

Oh, I know, I know, I’m a mom and I don’t get that luxury.  Ask Hope if she’s happy and healthy and get off my butt so I can rant.

Really, I don’t care.  I forget to cook, cleaning is what happens if I step on something between computer and fridge as I return with some cold something or other that can be eaten one-handed, cats are furry things I trip over on the way back to the computer, the dog is–hers–the bird is a distraction, the TV doesn’t come on unless Hope completes all her chores (which without my nagging doesn’t happen, but TV isn’t good for her anyway.)  No reading, no other hobbies, and don’t even think about trying to get me to go somewhere unless we’re down to eating the Mystery Can in the back of the lazy susan.  I’ll pay Hope to do my laundry if it occurs to me I’ll need clothes for Monday, and we’ll hit Subway three times in four days.

All of which Bly is aware of–and she doesn’t mind!  She’s planning on doing the cooking and the cleaning and I’m wondering if life can really be as good as this looks.  If we were gay, everything would be perfect!  (hee hee, if anyone intercepted our emails, they’d think we were, ‘flirting’ is one of our favorite pastimes…girls can do that.  Guys are too chicken.)

Can’t wait to get her here and get settled and get to writing!  She loves my work, seems to think she’s doing the world a favor by supporting it and helping me write faster, and she is, as I’ve mentioned, a born editor.  She makes me laugh till I hurt, she knows just what to say to make me feel better, and she regularly offers to bite people who annoy me.  Knowing full well I’d do the same for her.

Look out when we get together.  ::big evil grin::
